Mission
The two Landstuhl Fisher Houses provide a “home away from home” for families and patients receiving medical care at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany. Families served are from the US European Command, US Central Command, US Special Operations Command, and 72 Embassies in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. As of today, we are proud to have supported almost 5,000 families; 1000 of those families came from Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF-Afghanistan) or Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). The rest of the families came from the other regions we serve.

Eligibility and Cost
Landstuhl Fisher Houses prioritize their rooms according to the seriousness of the medical situation. All active duty, retired, VA personnel, and their dependants, who live over 40 miles from the hospital, are eligible. Rooms are $10/night. Demand for our rooms is high. In order to serve our families with the most severe cases or greatest financial need, we are unable to take reservations, only referrals which can be taken at any time. Confirmation is normally given one day before arrival. Families should make a back up plan and be prepared to stay in local hotels (average 80 euro per night) if The Ramstein Inn ($32 single and $48 family) is not available. Their reservation number: 06371-45-4920 or DSN 480-4920. We have a local hotel list that can be faxed or emailed upon request. Service liaisons: Army 486-6918; Navy 486-8127; Marine 486-6677; Air Force 480-5544.

Hospital Information
Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) is the largest American hospital outside of the United States, and the only American tertiary hospital in Europe. It is a fully accredited health care facility which provides care for more than 352,000 military personnel and their families within the center’s boundaries. LRMC has provided care to more than 16,000 casualties injured during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. LRMC’s specialties include Hematology/Oncology, Pediatric Cardiology, Rheumatology, Burn Stabilization, Neurosurgery, Ultrasound/CAT Scan, Addiction Treatment Facility, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. The Family Assistance Center is available to help families who come from the USA on orders and military ID holders.

LRMC has a Dining Hall, Burger King, Subway, and Italian Coffee/Sandwich Shop for meals. There is a Shoppette, gas station, bank, and post office in the complex.

House Information
Landstuhl Fisher Houses (LFH) I and II are both located across the street from the hospital. The two houses provide a total of 19 rooms with private bathrooms, TV/VCR or TV/DVD and telephone. They have four rooms with a shared bath in order to accommodate the large number of families who need the services of the LFH. The houses each have a large living room, dining room and kitchen; these common areas are shared by all the families. The LFH will provide most amenities to include toiletries, towels, linens, high chairs, booster seats, futons, bassinettes, and ‘pack and plays’. Families are responsible for their meals and the kitchen is well furnished with the items needed for food preparation. Each family will have some refrigerator space and freezer space plus a cabinet for their food. Laundry area and detergent are provided.

Families pay $10.00 per night by cash or check.

There is no child care provided by the Fisher House, but as space allows, it is available at the LRMC Child Development Center. Children’s shot records must be available.

Travel Information
We are located in the southwest area of Germany 1.5 hours south of Frankfurt airport. Families coming from the USA on Invitational Travel Orders will be picked up by official personnel. There are shuttle services for approximately $80/round trip (cash or credit card) that will bring families directly to the Landstuhl Fisher House; the meeting area is the American USO in Terminal 1, Hall C. Flight information and names of passengers is needed to make a reservation. Rita’s Airport Shuttle: 06371-58626 or from the USA 011 49 6371-58626. The USO will assist service families without a reservation as well. The airport and train station are co-located. The train costs about the same as the van shuttle service. Take the train to “Landstuhl” and then take a taxi from the train station to the Fisher House (additional 5 Euros).

Please make sure to get a taxi that has on-base/post privileges.
Rental cars are available at the airport from all major companies, however, driving on the German autobahns is not recommended if you are not familiar with them.
